Meta in Legal Trouble For Celebrity Crypto Ads Scam
Meta lands in legal turmoil as Australia files a lawsuit against the company. This lawsuit is prompted due to fake crypto currency Ads on Facebook.
The fake crypto ads were allegedly targeted to potential consumers featuring bogus celebrity endorsements. Some of these endorsements included former NSW Premier Mike Baird, TV host David Koch, and Entrepreneur Dick Smith. However, these celebrities had no prior knowledge of their association with these advertisements.
The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) says Meta is involved in creating revenue via target-based ads, and should be held responsible for publishing these fraudulent ads. “The essence of our case is that Meta is responsible for these ads that it publishes on its platform,” ACCC chairman Rod Sims said in a statement.

Environment Minister Wins Climate Change Case
Eight high school students had filed a lawsuit against Australia’s Environment Minister, Susan Ley, trying to block a NSW coal mine expansion. The teenagers claimed that the minister should consider the possible harm caused by climate change. They also highlighted her duty of care towards protecting young Australians. Following the court proceedings last year, the kids landed victory with Justice Mordecai Bromberg ruling in their favour. The court had dismissed the mine expansion and stated that the minister had a duty of care towards children.
Ley appealed against the court’s decision claiming she has no duty of care towards children. The Federal Court ruled in Ley’s favour by reversing the previous judge’s decision. The court stated that the minister didn’t have duty of care to protect children from climate change.
